Happy Independence day!

Today is Israel's 57th Independence day, I've spent the day as I always spend Independence days: BBQing with my family, watching the International Torah Quiz on Channel 1, and my next thing on the list is getting drunk in some nice independence party this evening.

  • Yom HaAtzmaut sameach!

I'm wondering if the various remembrance days and today's celebrations have changed for you in meaning now that you are in the IDF.

I'm also curious how you and your fellow soldiers feel in this season about the segment of the population that rejects Medinat Yisrael, yet still benefits from the protection of the IDF. I know that you don't get much time to post, but as an olah mother of three future chayalim, I would really be interested in your thoughts.

    Kol Tuv!

  • I live in NY. Today my four year old came home from her Jewish pre-school with an Israeli flag that she made. I asked her if she knew why she made the flag today. She said because its Jewish Day!

  • I bought an Israeli flag yesterday. Expensive, but I guess my parents agreed cause it was my birthday the day before. I did my part, I guess. :)

  • I was on my first date with this girl and we decided we should just stay home and rent a movie and since it was Israel's Independence Day we rented the movie, "The Hebrew Hammer" which was pretty freakin hilarious!

Anyways...when it was over I said something along the lines of, "Man, that movie was good, I wish I was Jewish!" she replied, "Why don't you be?" and I said, "Well, because then I would have to get circumsized".

I still haven't told her yet that I am circumsized! And when I hit it this weekend, jokes on her!! HA!
