More EU hypocrisy.

A few weeks ago Turkey fined twenty Kurds for using the letters W and Q which do not exist in the Turkish alphabet and it is against the law to use them in Turkey (or something of the sort). Naturally, the EU got all excited, started criticizing Turkey, and politicians from throughout Europe have pointed at the case as an example of Turkish limitations on freedom of speech and as a reason Turkey can't be in the EU.
And today, in Spain, a court sentenced a man to a year in prison for "insulting the king".
MADRID, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Spain's Supreme Court sentenced the leader of an outlawed Basque party to a year in prison on Friday for calling King Juan Carlos the "leader of the torturers". The court found that the comment by Batasuna leader Arnaldo Otegi at a news conference in 2003 broke a law prohibiting serious insults against Spain's king.

"We sentence Arnaldo Otegi, as criminally responsible for a crime of serious insults against the king ... to the penalty of one year in prison," the Supreme Court's written ruling said.
Shocked response from the EU, anyone? Postponing Spain's membership?
Why would they, after all, unlike Turkey, Spain doesn't have Muslim people in it. Because this is what the EU is all about. It's an elitist, white-christian-only society. The only reason Turkey isn't in the EU is because they're neither white, nor christian enough, and Europeans should admit it. The only reason EU criticizes Turkey for "occupation" and "human rights violations" and doesn't even bother to look at the way EU members behaving (France in Ivory Coast for instance) is because Turks aren't white or christian.
Well, after all, he insulted the king, "Off with his head!!!"

1 Comments:

  • Erm, Spain has over a million muslims, about the same percentage as, say, the UK. Who knows what the number of undocumented muslims in Spain is...
